At the invitation of the speaker of the Sejm of the Republic of Latvia, Daiga Mierinja, the delegation led by RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan is on an official visit to Riga.
The delegation, which also includes Arsen Torosyan, the head of the Armenia-Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia friendship group, and members Eduard Aghajanyan and Maria Karapetyan, met with Daiga Mierinya on June 26.
In addition to other issues of mutual interest, issues related to RA-EU cooperation as well as Armenia's democratic reforms were at the core of the discussions. In this context, Alen Simonyan emphasized the importance of developing relations with Latvia both as a bilateral partner and as a member of the EU.
Speaking about the development of inter-parliamentary relations, the Speaker of the RA NA stressed the issue of activating ties between friendly groups operating in the two parliaments, proposing to initiate cooperation between the standing committees of the two parliaments, as well as within the framework of the "Northern Europe-Baltic States" (NB8) format.
Alenq Simonyan presented the "Crossroads of Peace" project initiated by the Armenian government to his partner and asked for his support in returning the Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan to their homeland.
Thanking for the warm welcome on behalf of the RA NA delegation, Alen Simonyan invited the Speaker of the Seimas Daiga Mierinya to visit the Republic of Armenia.
