Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with the CE human rights commissioner

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Michael O'Flaherty.

The meeting emphasized the effective cooperation formed with the Office of the CE Commissioner in the fields of human rights protection and rule of law strengthening.

Reference was made to the implementation of democratic reforms in Armenia. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia emphasized that despite the difficulties and the impact of geopolitical developments in the South Caucasus, the government of the Republic of Armenia continues to adhere to the reform agenda, using the opportunities provided through international mechanisms. In the latter context, reference was made to the practice of RA joining and applying the CE conventions and the upcoming tasks. The CE Commissioner welcomed the signing of the Oviedo Convention by the RA Foreign Minister yesterday.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia presented to the Council of Ministers the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Armenia to address the needs and rights of more than 100,000 Armenians forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan. Reference was also made to issues of a humanitarian nature, including the release of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians illegally held hostage by Azerbaijan.
