"The destinies of Armenians and Yezidis are quite similar." Bakoyan

"The Standing Committee for the Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs proposed to give Ferial Said Talal, an eyewitness of the genocide in Sinjar, the opportunity to speak at an extraordinary session." This was announced today in parliament by the deputy speaker of the National Assembly, Hakob Arshakyan, after which the issue of adopting the draft of the NA decision on giving the right to speak to the person invited to the discussion of the draft on making an addition to the law "On Holidays and Memorial Days of the Republic of Armenia" was put to the vote.

The National Assembly adopted the decision, after which the parliament asked to adopt the draft of the days on the first reading and add an addition to the law "On Holidays and Memorial Days of the Republic of Armenia" for discussion.

The main speaker, Rustam Bakoyan, deputy of the NA "Civil Contract" faction, first thanked Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Alen Simonyan, the government and opposition MPs, and then presented what he had to say.

"Genocide is a crime against humanity. Moreover, the biggest. This is a direct result and a direct consequence of the incorrect and inappropriate condemnation of the Armenian Genocide that took place in 1915. The destinies of Armenians and Yezidis are quite similar; they have always crossed paths, and we have always faced the same situations in different stages of history. RA, adhering to the policy and priority it adopted in the process of prevention and condemnation of genocides, condemned the Genocide of Yezidis in Iraq from the UN High Chair in 2014."

According to Bakoyan, it is a historic day for both the Yezidis and Armenia because dozens of countries have condemned the Genocide of the Yezidis. Still, it is the first time that any country enshrines the Yezidi genocide as a day of remembrance in the law on holidays and memorial days.

The deputy declared that there was a need to stop the Genocide of the Yezidis.
