The imperative of returning Armenian prisoners of war and hostages was emphasized

On April 8, RA National Assembly President Alen Simonyan received the delegation from CE Secretary General Maria Peychinovich Burich.

As reported by the RA NA, at the beginning of the meeting, the NA Speaker presented the Armenia-CoE activities for 2023-2026. the progress of the project, noting with satisfaction that it is proceeding effectively through political and expert evaluations.

"We emphasize the high evaluation of PACE's latest monitoring report on the activities of democratic institutions in Armenia. "The report on the fulfillment of the obligations and commitments assumed by Armenia" is being prepared now, which we value from the point of view of the effective implementation of the reforms, said the Speaker of the Parliament.

Maria Pejcinovich Burich reaffirmed the Council of Europe's high assessment of Armenia's reforms and commitment to democracy and peace.

"With its democracy and values, Armenia has proven and continues to prove that it is committed to the agenda of maintaining human rights, peace, and regional security stability. Peace has no alternative, and everything must be done to establish it as soon as possible and is lasting," said the General Secretary of the CE.

The projects implemented jointly with the Council of Europe, the work on the Convention on the Prevention of Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence, the process of Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations, the security situation in the region, the imperative to return Armenian prisoners of war and hostages, as well as the Armenia-EU relationship prospects.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the RA National Assembly, Ruben Rubinyan, head of the delegation of the RA National Assembly to the PACE, and Arman Khachatryan, the permanent representative of the Republic of Armenia to the Council of Europe.
