National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan gave a speech at the opening of the 11th plenary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, on March 20-22.
In his speech, the head of the parliament referred to the ethnic cleansing of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, the issue of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan, the provision of information on missing persons, and the sending of a UNESCO mission to protect cultural heritage in the region.
The Speaker of the National Assembly emphasized and expressed satisfaction with the willingness to deploy and further expand the EU civilian mission in Armenia, stressing that the deployment of the EU mission in Armenia has improved the security situation in the country's border regions.
The Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly consists of the head of the National Assembly delegation to the Euronest PA, Maria Karapetyan, deputy of the "Civil Contract" faction, chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly, Sargis Khandanyan, deputy of the "Civil Contract" faction, chairman of the Standing Committee on European Integration of the National Assembly, Arman Yeghoyan, deputy of the "Civil Contract" faction, Babken Tunyan and Tatevik Gasparyan, deputies of the same faction, Artur Khachatryan, Anna Grigoryan, and Elinar Vardanyan, deputies of the "Hayastan" faction.
Within the framework of the plenary session, a plenary session entitled "The Impact of Further EU Expansion on the Eastern Partnership (EaP)" was held, on which Maria Karapetyan, Sargis Khandanyan, and Artur Khachatryan made speeches.
