President Vahagn Khachaturyan, who is in Iraq on an official visit, had a private conversation with his counterpart, Iraqi President Abd Al-Latif Jamal Rashid.

The private conversation was followed by the meeting, with the extended composition of the delegations of the two countries.

Welcoming the President of the Republic and members of the delegation, the President of Iraq emphasized the importance of high-level mutual visits from the point of view of strengthening bilateral relations and noted: "The cooperation between Armenia and Iraq is developing dynamically in all fields, and we have already achieved certain achievements in a number of issues. The official visit of the President of Armenia to Iraq will contribute to the strengthening of relations between our countries. Within the framework of the visit, there will be effective discussions, and new successes will be recorded in the deepening of cooperation in the economy, culture, tourism, technology, and other fields.

President Vahagn Khachaturyan thanked for the warm welcome and noted. "We see your warm attitude towards us, which testifies to the historically formed friendship between our peoples. My visit was preceded by your visit to the Republic of Armenia, which was highly anticipated and historic. Today, we are obliged to continue closer cooperation between our countries, especially since its potential exists in almost all spheres of economy, education, science, high technologies, and other spheres.

I can report with pleasure that we were able to jointly initiate the start of a new stage in the development of relations between Armenia and Iraq."

Agenda issues of strengthening Armenian-Iraqi cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, high technologies, tourism, and culture were discussed during the meeting. Reference was made to the possibilities of fully realizing the potential of interaction between the two countries and the implementation of the necessary steps in this direction. The importance of the active activity of the intergovernmental commission was emphasized.

The interlocutors exchanged ideas regarding implementing the necessary measures for the mutual liberalization of the visa regime for the citizens of the two countries.
The meeting emphasized the continuous promotion of cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy between the parliaments of the two countries.

During the conversation, reference was made to the general situation in our region; in this context, President Khachaturyan reaffirmed Armenia's principled approach to the issue of achieving stable, lasting peace in the region. Vahagn Khachaturyan emphasized that Armenia has a clear position to establish neighborly and stable relations with its neighbors and partners, which will be based on territorial integrity, sovereignty, international fundamental principles, and supremacy of rights.
