"Regardless of the peace treaty, Armenia will continue to buy defensive weapons." said the minister

RA Defense Minister Suren Papikyan announced that Armenia has adopted a policy of modernizing the Armed Forces' capabilities.

"This implies that we have to fill these needs with our funds. The support of partner countries, including European partner countries, would only help us. It also refers to the opportunities to use peace tools. But our approach is as follows: Armenia buys weapons and ammunition to protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty. Arms and ammunition purchased by Armenia are not aimed at aggression against any country," said Papikyan.

He added that he cannot deny the danger of aggression, as evidenced by the current rhetoric. "We must protect the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Regardless of what kind of security environment we will have after signing a peace treaty shortly, the Armenian Armed Forces will continue to buy defense weapons and ammunition, and the contracts we signed today are about that."
