The EU's long-term observation mission is vital for Armenia. Simonyan

On January 31, RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan received the delegation led by the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, Marketa Pekarova Adamova.

The meeting started with a private conversation between the presidents of the parliaments, which was followed by an extended meeting.
Alen Simonyan, welcoming the colleagues, noted that Armenia highly values the stable development of friendly relations with the Czech Republic.
The parties stated that since establishing diplomatic relations between Armenia and the Czech Republic, it has been possible to develop solid interstate ties and a multilateral cooperation agenda.

Referring to the ethnic cleansing unleashed by Azerbaijan against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19, 2023, the Speaker of the National Assembly presented the current problems to the Czech colleagues, particularly regarding the Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan and the negotiation process regarding the Peace Treaty.

"Armenia's position regarding the agenda of establishing peace in the region is clear. We must establish peaceful relations based on mutual recognition of sovereignty and territorial integrity. However, I must record that the policy pursued by Azerbaijan has recently led to a dead end," said the Speaker of the National Assembly and added. "In this sense, the EU's long-term observation mission is vital for Armenia in terms of security. We value the contribution of the Czech Republic in this matter."

Marketa Pekarova Adamova highly appreciated Armenia's efforts to establish peace in the region and expressed confidence that the Czech Republic would try to contribute to the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty negotiations.

The parties discussed the possibilities for the development of Armenian-Czech inter-parliamentary relations. The leaders of the parliaments highlighted the necessity of continuous expansion of the agenda aimed at democratic values.

At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament made a note in the Guest of Honor book. After the meeting with the extended team, Alen Simonyan and Marketa Pekarova Adamova held a joint press conference.
