"We aim to turn the South Caucasus into a region of intersection of infrastructures." Mirzoyan

On January 26, within the regular session of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation between Armenia and Georgia in Tbilisi, the RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia signed the agreement "between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of Georgia on the implementation of paid activities by the family members of the staff of diplomatic and consular institutions."

In his speech at the intergovernmental session, Minister Mirzoyan noted that in 2023, during this period, the consistent activation and deepening of the political dialogue with Georgia was one of the critical directions of RA foreign policy, and active cooperation between the foreign political departments of the two countries was ensured. Meetings of the two ministers and department officials were held on different platforms, regular political consultations between the foreign ministries were held in Yerevan, and the embassies in both countries did active work to raise the relations between the two states to a strategic level, according to the agreement reached between the Prime Ministers of Armenia and Georgia in the summer.

Ararat Mirzoyan noted that the demarcation of the interstate border between Armenia and Georgia is also on the agenda. As was discussed before, it is suggested to activate the joint work of the commissions, if necessary, also using internationally competent mechanisms, and to settle the issue ultimately in a neighborly atmosphere. Minister Mirzoyan noted that the Armenian side has completed the work of forming the commission and is ready to start the discussions in the shortest terms.

Minister Mirzoyan emphasized. "We value our relations with Georgia not only bilaterally but also in the regional context, considering it one of the key components of regional stability, security, and development. This intention of ours is also reflected in the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, aiming to turn the South Caucasus together with our Georgian partners into a region of intersection of all kinds of infrastructure, with the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, reciprocity, and equality as the core. It is no coincidence that the Prime Minister of Armenia presented this initiative to the international community for the first time in Georgia, within the framework of the "Silk Road" conference in Tbilisi.

Minister Mirzoyan added that cooperation in democratic reforms, the rule of law, and the protection of human rights is vital in relations with Georgia. The spread of democratic values in the South Caucasus, including through close cooperation with the EU, will contribute to the process of establishing lasting and solid peace in the region.
