On January 17, the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was held. During the discussion of political issues, Ambassador Arman Khachatryan, the permanent representative of Armenia in the Council of Ministers, presented to the Committee of Ministers the latest statements of the top political leadership of Azerbaijan, stressing that they can seriously disrupt the peace process.
Ambassador Khachatryan noted that Azerbaijan's bellicose rhetoric, reneging on agreements reached, and making new demands on Armenia do not contribute to establishing peace and stability in the region. The ambassador called on the Committee of Ministers to be consistent and take explicit steps to prevent Azerbaijan from further worsening the situation in the area.
In his speech, Ambassador Khachatryan also referred to the report on the state of human rights published by CE Human Rights Commissioner Dunya Mijatovich as a result of his visit to Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Nagorno-Karabakh. On this occasion, the ambassador emphasized that the records of Commissioner Mijatovich reveal the baseless claims of Azerbaijan regarding the blocking of the Lachin Corridor and the circumstances of the forced displacement of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians.
Ambassador Khachatryan concluded his speech by reaffirming Armenia's commitment to the long-term peace process in the region based on previously agreed principles.
