"After the ratification of the Rome Statute, there are many legal normative acts that we must adopt or amend the existing laws. In that sense, we studied the experience of different countries. In particular, Georgia has a similar legislation, in general, a separate law. But we also studied the experience of 4-5 leading countries. The first step is the development of new legislation and working with international experts," Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan said at the press conference held today.
When asked how the Rome Statute should help the removal of past war crimes, Minasyan clarified the process. "There are prosecutorial and investigative tools, and our pre-investigative bodies, studying these crimes, collecting this information, also have the opportunity to involve international prosecutors and law enforcement officers, who, coming to Armenia or studying the papers, become participants in these proceedings. And in this case, Armenia is not alone in the investigative processes of war crimes."
