On October 30, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Romania were held in Bucharest. RA Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan and the Romanian one headed by Iulian Fota, State Secretary of the Romanian Foreign Ministry, led the Armenian delegation.
Referring to a wide range of issues on the Armenian-Romanian bilateral agenda, the parties highly appreciated the political dialogue formed between the two countries. The possibilities of expanding cooperation in various fields, as well as cooperation and mutual support within the framework of international organizations, were discussed.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia presented to the Romanian side the humanitarian situation created as a result of the policy of ethnic cleansing in Azerbaijan, referring to the efforts made by the state to provide support to the forcibly displaced refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh. Paruyr Hovhannisyan thanked the Romanian side for the humanitarian aid provided for the needs of the refugees.
During the consultations, ideas were exchanged on several issues of regional and international interest. Reference was made to the expanded partnership between Armenia and the EU. Paruyr Hovhannisyan emphasized the importance of deploying the EU observation mission in Armenia in the context of the imperative to curb ambitions towards the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia.
Within the framework of his visit to Romania, the Deputy Foreign Minister had a meeting with Traian Hristea, Secretary of State for Global Issues and Diplomatic Strategy of the Romanian Foreign Ministry, as well as the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament, Rozália-Ibolya BIRÓ, and the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Titus Corlățean.
