Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Melanie Joly, referred to the possibility of imposing sanctions on Azerbaijan.
"The issue of possible sanctions against Azerbaijan is now on the table. Canada highly appreciates Armenia's efforts to strengthen peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
We all agree that more needs to be done. Canada calls on Azerbaijan to fully respect the territorial integrity of Armenia. It reaffirms the importance of adhering to the principles of non-use of force and the threat of force.
Canada also calls on the government of Azerbaijan to respect the right of return of Armenians recently displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh and, in a show of goodwill, to ensure unhindered access to humanitarian aid to Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as to ensure the safe return of Armenians to Nagorno-Karabakh. We are continuously working with our partners to mitigate the consequences of Azerbaijan's unjustified military operation against civilians, especially since the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh were under an illegal blockade for months," she said.
