Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Armenia Andrew Turner presented his credentials to the President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturian.
The President congratulated the newly appointed ambassador on assuming the post and wished him success in fulfilling his responsible mission.
"I am sure that your appointment as the first resident ambassador and opening of the Canadian embassy in Armenia will be a new stimulus in developing relations between our countries. The relations between the two countries have different values, and even more so, they have a unique role for Armenia today. I want to thank the Canadian government for its support of Armenia. We certainly need your support. We support not only in Armenia but also on international platforms.
Your appointment and the embassy's opening open up great opportunities to deepen the relations between our two countries and predict projects in new fields or ensure development," said President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
Expressing his gratitude for the reception, Ambassador Turner noted.
"I am thrilled to find you here. As you mentioned, Canada has been and will always be a great friend and supporter of Armenia. You have already witnessed our response to the recent crisis through our humanitarian assistance and statements at the United Nations and on different platforms.
All efforts have been made to send strong support signals during these difficult times. And the embassy's opening is another factor in strengthening our relations."
During the meeting, issues regarding the further development of Armenian-Canadian political, economic, and other spheres of cooperation were discussed. Further promotion of the existing high-level political dialogue between the two countries was highlighted.
During the conversation, issues related to protecting the rights of forcibly displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh, humanitarian issues, and regional developments were touched upon. The President of the Republic emphasized that Armenia is committed to normalizing relations with its neighbors and achieving final and stable peace.
