Despite the alarms, the international community did not take targeted actions to prevent the catastrophe. Minister

On October 2, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, had a meeting with the delegation representing various factions of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, which was led by the chairman of the inter-parliamentary commission for cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Haris Georgiades.

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed regional security issues. Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized that due to the aggressive actions of Azerbaijan, including the large-scale military attack of September 19, the people of Nagorno-Karabakh had to leave their homeland, undergoing ethnic cleansing.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs reminded that the Armenian side repeatedly raised the alarm about the worsening situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, including within the framework of the UN Security Council and the General Assembly. Yet, the international community, particularly the UN, and the main actors did not take timely targeted actions to prevent this catastrophe.

Referring to the position of Cyprus on the issue, Minister Mirzoyan highly appreciated the principled approach of the Cypriot Parliament and the adoption of resolutions, as well as the willingness of Cyprus to provide support to the forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno Karabakh.

It was emphasized on both sides that the created situation showed that political statements are not enough and clear steps are needed to exclude the use of force or the threat of power, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia.

The interaction between the two countries and parliaments in various formats and multilateral platforms was discussed at the meeting. The interlocutors emphasized with satisfaction the comprehensive bilateral agenda formed between Armenia and Cyprus and the expanding cooperation in various fields.

During the meeting, Minister Mirzoyan congratulated the Cypriot parliamentarians on the occasion of the Cyprus Independence Day, sending best wishes to Cyprus's friendly people and government.
