"In 1991, In the September 21 referendum, the RA people said "yes" to independence, but as it turned out later, this was the easiest part of the path to independence," said RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in his congratulatory address on the occasion of RA Independence Day.
"We realized that declaring independence is one thing, conquering and strengthening it is another. The sufferings and trials we have suffered in recent years are an integral part of the struggle for the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia. Recently, I have often been criticized for relying on 1991 when conducting foreign and regional policy on December's Almaty Declaration and related documents, which the Republic of Armenia also signed. The authors directly and indirectly call for the abandonment of the policy based on that document. The problem is that the Almaty Declaration and related documents are one of the main factors of RA, which record the political and legal basis of the independence of 12 former USSR republics, including RA, and the fundamental principles of independence."
