"Until now, Tavush was managed by the operational center of Martuni. Immediately having an operational center in Ijevan will allow us to send more patrols to the regions that are important for us in terms of a more regular presence and reaching people in the most remote border regions," said Marcus Ritter, the head of the EU monitoring mission, at the opening of the Ijevan operational center.
EU Ambassador Maragos emphasized that the common goal of all existing institutions in Armenia is to invest efforts in strengthening the stability and peace of the country and the region. The Governor of Tavush, Hayk Ghalumyan, highly appreciated the EU mission's presence in Armenia, especially in Tavush.
The EU monitoring mission works in five planned operational centers: Martuni, Ijevan, Jermuk, Goris, and Kapan. The last center, which is in Yeghegnadzor, will operate from mid-October, observing the Armenian-Azerbaijani border from the Ararat and Vayots Dzor regions.
