Sargis Khandanyan, chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, stated that Armenia expects the international community to increase pressure on Azerbaijan and prevent another regional explosion.
"You know that the situation is quite aggravated, considering Azerbaijan is mobilizing additional forces around Nagorno-Karabakh and near the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. In this situation, we are working with all those partners who can use certain levers and pressure Azerbaijan so that the latter returns to the peace negotiations or is more constructive," he said.
Referring to the possibility of Armenia joining NATO, Khandanyan noted, "Discussions related to NATO are romanticized in our society. Some countries do not have conflicts; they are the most peaceful countries in the world, and today they have difficulties joining NATO. How do you imagine Armenia joining NATO shortly? I don't see the possibility of it either technically or politically."
He also stressed that the Armenian government has never announced that it wants to join NATO.
