The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Finland discussed regional issues

On August 29, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland, Elina Valtonen.

Minister Mirzoyan presented to his colleague the details of the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh that is deepening hour by hour due to Azerbaijan's illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor for over 8 months. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia specifically noted that the fundamental rights of 120,000 people have been violated, there is an acute shortage of food and medicine, and the supply of gas and electricity to Nagorno Karabakh has been disrupted.

Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the imperative for Azerbaijan to implement the legally binding decisions of the UN International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6 to remove the blockade of the Lachin Corridor immediately and to prevent the ethnic cleansing of the people of Nagorno Karabakh. The importance of effective use of the existing tools by international partners, including the EU and its member states, was emphasized. Ararat Mirzoyan noted that the continuous aggravation of the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh by the official Baku is undermining the efforts of Armenia and the international community to establish stability in the region.

During the phone call, the RA-EU partnership, the EU civilian mission in Armenia, and the continuous support for democratic reforms in Armenia were also touched upon.
