"It was unequivocally emphasized that the difficult humanitarian situation created for the population of Nagorno-Karabakh should be eliminated." MFA

The RA Foreign Ministry stated the urgent session of the UN Security Council.

"While the urgent session of the UN Security Council convened at the request of the Republic of Armenia on August 16, it was once again recorded that international partners, despite the false propaganda carried out by Azerbaijan, are aware of the fact of the grave humanitarian situation in Nagorno Karabakh and the importance of addressing it. The evaluations and messages addressed to Azerbaijan during the second discussion in the format of the UN Security Council complemented the precise positions expressed by various governments, international structures, and human rights organizations.

Remarkable were the speeches of the member states and the representative of the EU stating that Azerbaijan is obliged to eliminate the illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor by the tripartite declaration of November 9, 2020, and the legally binding decisions of the UN International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6. It was clearly emphasized that the severe humanitarian situation created for the population of Nagorno-Karabakh due to the blockade, which has been going on for more than eight months, should be eliminated.

Azerbaijan continues to distort the international community's calls, seek false and untrue pretexts not to implement its obligations, and prolong the humanitarian crisis, including ethnically cleansing the indigenous people of Nagorno-Karabakh through starvation. Moreover, Azerbaijan tries to manipulate any "balanced" approach by international actors, interpreting it as a concession to continue its adopted policy.

We emphasize the urgency of using all available international tools to eliminate the humanitarian crisis in NK, restore uninterrupted movement in both directions through the Lachin Corridor, and ensure unimpeded access to international humanitarian organizations in NK.

The RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highly appreciating the moral and fair positions of the UN Security Council member states committed to their mandate to contribute to international security and peace, will continue to work on various platforms, including the UN Security Council, by taking consistent steps to unblock the Lachin Corridor and overcome the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh," the statement said.
