"Azerbaijan threatens the efforts of the international community." Ararat Mirzoyan

On August 14, RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan spoke with Margus Tsahkna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia.

RA Foreign Minister presented to his colleague the details of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, noting that Azerbaijan has illegally blocked the Lachin Corridor since December 12 of last year. Since June 15, the 120,000-person population of Nagorno-Karabakh has been under complete siege. Minister Mirzoyan noted that the humanitarian activities of the only international humanitarian organization with access to Nagorno-Karabakh, the International Committee of the Red Cross, are being disrupted, putting the lives of people needing urgent medical assistance at risk. Minister Mirzoyan added that in the case of the minimal possibility of transfer from Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia accompanied by the ICRC for treatment, Azerbaijan carries out intimidation measures such as the kidnapping of Nagorno Karabakh resident Vagif Khachatryan by the Azerbaijani border guard on July 29.

It was emphasized that blocking the Lachin Corridor violates not only the tripartite declaration of November 9, 2020, the norms of international humanitarian law, but also the decisions of the International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6. Highly appreciating the statements made by international partners so far, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of clear steps by the EU and EU member states in the current situation. The minister also referred to Armenia's application to the UN Security Council to convene an extraordinary session.

Reaffirming Armenia's position on establishing long-term stability in the region, Minister Mirzoyan noted that the escalation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan threatens the international community's efforts in that direction.
