"The international community should take measures to end the siege of Nagorno-Karabakh," the Prime Minister wrote in an article in "Le Monde"

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan published an article in the French magazine "Le Monde" entitled "Armenia. "The international community should take measures to stop the siege of Nagorno- Karabakh."

Nikol Pashinyan expressed his opinion in the column of "Le Monde" that the rights and safety of the people living there should be a priority to establish a stable peace in the region, surrounded by Azerbaijan.

"On July 15, I met with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. This meeting with the President of Azerbaijan was the last of the series in the previous four months in different formats and capitals. With its actions, Armenia has proved there is a genuine will among the government and people of Armenia to establish a stable peace in the region.

We are confident that sustainable peace in the South Caucasus can significantly impact international relations. In recent years, Armenia has become a stable, democratic country in a complex region. Geographically, we are at a strategic crossroads.

We should start a peace process, normalize relations with our neighbors, and build robust transportation and energy infrastructures. In that case, we will increase local prosperity, strengthen ties between Asia and Europe, and greatly enhance global trade and international stability.

Worsening of the situation

Although the outlines of a peace agreement are emerging, its implementation still faces significant obstacles. Those obstacles, which have persisted for a decade, can only be overcome with the support of partners who believe in peace in the South Caucasus.
Currently, the main obstacle to peace is Azerbaijan's aggressive and illegal actions towards Nagorno-Karabakh, especially in the Lachin Corridor and on the borders of Armenia. The Lachin Corridor is the only way to connect the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh with the outside world.

Since December 2022, access to that corridor has been strictly limited by Azerbaijan, citing environmental concerns. Today, Baku went one step further by placing a border checkpoint at the entrance to the hall, not even allowing the International Committee of the Red Cross to enter. The supply of food, medicine, and necessities has been seriously disrupted. Bring back life to the people of Nagorno-Karabakh."
