On July 18, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid in Vienna. During the meeting, issues of the regional agenda were discussed, thoughts were exchanged about the OSCE's activity and role under the current challenges.
Ararat Mirzoyan presented to the OSCE Secretary General the security situation in the South Caucasus, as well as the latest developments in the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Presenting Armenia's vision of establishing comprehensive stability in the region, the minister emphasized that Azerbaijan should not act in conditions of self-righteousness. The imperative of addressing the rights and security issues of the Nagorno-Karabakh people under the international mechanism was emphasized.
Ararat Mirzoyan noted that Azerbaijan, ignoring the legally binding decisions of the International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6, continues to keep the Lachin corridor closed. The minister emphasized the urgency of international actors' active steps to prevent another humanitarian disaster in the neighborhood of Europe in the 21st century and the ethnic cleansing of the Nagorno-Karabakh population, emphasizing the need for effective use of OSCE mechanisms and existing tools.
It was emphasized on both sides that proper addressing of all existing problems is necessary for sustainable peace. Reference was also made to ensuring the inclusiveness of regional programs and other issues of interest.
