On July 4, the delegation headed by RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan, who is in the Republic of Poland on an official visit, met Elzbieta Witek, Marshal of the Polish Sejm.
After exchanging greetings, the parties stated that the meetings and discussions planned during the official visit would promote bilateral cooperation. Alen Simonyan noted that our peoples are connected by centuries-old historical relations, reminding us that last year was the 655th anniversary of the formation of the Armenian community in Poland. He expressed his gratitude for the care and attitude shown to our compatriots at the state level in Poland.
The importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation, including friendship groups, was emphasized at the meeting in expanding bilateral relations. The holding of joint sessions of the foreign relations committees of the RA National Assembly and the two chambers of the Polish Parliament was highlighted on both sides.
Emphasizing the opportunities for interaction on various international platforms, Alen Simonyan noted that as a co-author of the Eastern Partnership, Poland actively strengthens Armenia-EU relations. Armenia expects Poland's support in the effective implementation of the Agreement.
Referring to the establishment of stability and security issues in the region, the Speaker of the RA National Assembly presented details of the situation on the borders of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh due to the Azerbaijani aggression. The Speaker of the RA National Assembly reminded that since December 12, 2022, Azerbaijan has blockaded Nagorno-Karabakh, grossly violating international humanitarian law and the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020, and also ignores the February 22 International Court of Justice's legal ruling against Azerbaijan. Binding decision. He attached great importance to deploying the European Union observation mission, which is favorable regarding security, ensuring regional stability, and building ground trust. "We also know that in the middle of this year, Poland plans to expand the involvement of observers in the mission, which is very welcome for us," the Speaker of the National Assembly emphasized. Alen Simonyan noted that during various meetings with all international partners, they raise the need to apply sanctions against Azerbaijan and expect specific responses.
The Polish colleague emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy ensures uninterrupted communication between parliaments, thanks to which accurate information about countries is obtained. Speaking of democratic values, he emphasized accountability to the people and the positions regarding international partners. In this context, the marshal of the Polish Sejm expressed his opinion on the further multi-sectoral expansion of cooperation. Referring to the conflicts in different parts of the world, Elzbieta Witek noted that despite political views and differences, Poles always unite against aggression and for peace, making their voices heard.
RA NA Speaker expressed hope that the voice of Poland will be heard in the matter of democracy and the establishment of peace in our country.
