Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan referred to the statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeihun Bayramov, that they consider it impossible to give additional guarantees to the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to Simonyan, such a statement harms them, "In the case of such realities, they do not solve the issue that was the cause of the problem for decades. It has run away from reality," he said, adding that he is sure that Azerbaijan will solve the issue at some stage, "Now, I think it's about setting a high bar before the negotiations and the possibility of setbacks before the initial phase."
Simonyan emphasizes the issue of international guarantees, "That issue cannot be forgotten. This is self-deception. If Azerbaijan is ready for self-deception, Armenia is not ready."
He emphasized that if they disagree on the issue of international guarantees of the rights of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, the problem will not be resolved. The Speaker of the National Assembly also reminded of the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020, which needs to be implemented, "The guarantor country does not want or is unable to take action. I am unsure now that we should fix it in the peace treaty and not in another document that any country should be a guarantor. If this issue is not included and discussed, if it still needs to be resolved, it means that most negotiations are meaningless conversations."
