In the NA Investigative Committee, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that during the 2020 war, the President of Nagorno-Karabakh repeatedly reported the news, which, however, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia did not confirm at first but later accepted the fact.
"Understanding that the cornerstone importance of Shushi was further emphasized, all the instructions were about fortifying Shushi and organizing its defense. In the end, the impression was confirmed that everything necessary was done. But not long after those preparatory actions, news came that a group of Azerbaijanis broke through our defense in the area of Zarisli village and stood on the Lachin-Stepanakert road, essentially blocking the road. The news was reported to me by the President of Nagorno-Karabakh. Still, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia did not confirm this information," Nikol Pashinyan said, noting that this was a situation repeated about a dozen times during the war when the President of Nagorno-Karabakh reported the news, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia did not confirm it. According to him, Shushi's creeping decline started from there.
