On June 1, the EU Civil Mission (EUMA) head, Markus Ritter, and the head of the EU delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Victorin, received the EU Eastern Europe and Central Asia Working Group (COEST) delegation in Martuni. Ritter outlined the mission's mandate and activities. He also briefed the participants on security-related developments on the ground based on mission observations.
In the first three months, the Civil Mission (EUMA) conducted more than 300 patrols from its Goris, Jermuk, and Martuni operational centers. Every week the patrols cover a distance of more than 3800 km.
“The mission has taken off unprecedentedly, starting operations this February. In the coming months, the mission plans to open three additional operational centers in Kapan, Ijevan, and Yeghegnadzor, gradually reaching full operation shortly," said Ritter.
"One of our goals is also to contribute to the stabilization of the security of the border regions. And according to many Armenian officials, the observation mission (EUMA) contributed to stabilizing the situation. However, the situation is still volatile,” Mr. Ritter added.
