On June 5, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Latvia took place in Riga. The Armenian delegation was heade,d by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Paruyr Hovhannisyan, and the Latvian delegation was headed by the Deputy Secretary of State of the Foreign Ministry, Anjes Vilumsons.
During the consultations, a wide range of Armenian-Latvian bilateral cooperation was discussed.
Reference was made to the possibilities of expanding cooperation in various fields, as well as practical steps aimed at revitalizing trade and economic relations. Thoughts were exchanged on a number of issues of the RA-EU partnership agenda. The importance of the development of Armenian-Latvian cooperation in international organizations was emphasized.
At the meeting, Paruyr Hovhannisyan also presented the interlocutor with the latest developments regarding Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and Nagorno Karabakh. In that context, the importance of the deployment of the EU observation mission was emphasized, as well as the illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan and new encroachments on the sovereign territory of Armenia, the steps towards the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the question of unblocking regional communication channels. The deputy minister emphasized the need for the immediate release of the Armenian prisoners of war in Azerbaijani captivity and the importance of making efforts to preserve the Armenian cultural heritage.
