The statements of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on April 18, 2023 once again demonstrate his intentions to torpedo the efforts of the Armenian side and the international community aimed at establishing peace in the South Caucasus.
With these statements, Ilham Aliyev shows open contempt for various international partners in whose presence and mediation Azerbaijan recognized the territorial integrity of Armenia and assumed several clear obligations, including the distinction between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan based on the Almaty Declaration, and About the creation of an international mechanism for addressing the rights and security guarantees of the people of Nagorno Karabakh.
Moreover, with his statement, the president of Azerbaijan openly admits the fact of planned aggression and occupation of the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia, as well as openly reveals his intentions to subject the population of Nagorno Karabakh to ethnic cleansing. The president of Azerbaijan, under whose leadership gross and flagrant institutional violations of human rights and the rights of various groups are taking place in that country, is openly making ontological threats to the peaceful population of Nagorno-Karabakh living in their homeland.
The words of hatred expressed by the top leadership of Azerbaijan towards the Armenian people are clearly aimed at deepening the intolerance and hatred of the Armenian people, which has been propagated by the state for decades among the Azerbaijani public, which is also a consequence of the war crimes committed by the representatives of the Azerbaijani armed forces, the extrajudicial execution of prisoners of war and hostages of civilians on ethnic grounds. the murders, their video recording and distribution by the persons who carried them out, as a matter of pride.
It is also inspired by the statements of the political leadership of Azerbaijan that a few days ago an Azerbaijani soldier illegally invaded the territory of Armenia and deliberately brutally murdered an Armenian citizen and tried to inform the Azerbaijani side about this, as well as about his intention to kill many other Armenian civilians. We are sure that after the mentioned statement of the President of Azerbaijan, the fact that these and the above-mentioned crimes are organized at the state level cannot cause even a doubt among the international community.
Instead of looking for stable and lasting solutions to the problems that have accumulated in the region for years, Azerbaijan is trying to advance its extremist ambitions through the use of force and threats of force. The Armenian side has repeatedly warned about the destabilizing prospects of this policy conducted by Azerbaijan and drew the attention of the international community to the dangers of such a way of acting for the world order based on international law.
