The minister received the representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Armenia
Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan received the newly appointed representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Armenia, Kavita Belani. During the meeting, issues related to the legal protection of refugees in Armenia, the provision of asylum, and the examination of relevant court cases were discussed.
The parties emphasized the proper inclusion of provisions related to refugees and asylum seekers in all current justice sector reforms.
During the meeting, reference was made to the need for the specialization of judges and public defenders and the development of the capacities of employees of penitentiary institutions.
The minister and the representative of the Armenian office of the High Commissioner for Refugees agreed to develop further cooperation to solve several problems in the field and protect the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.
In this context, the priority of coordinating the indicated directions of cooperation and making them more targeted and effective was emphasized.
An agreement has been reached to organize a joint round table discussion shortly with the participation of all state administration bodies and experts in the field involved in the issues of refugees and asylum seekers.
