"Azerbaijan shot in the direction of Russia and the West," Suren Surenyants

Yesterday, the sabotage group of the Azerbaijani armed forces targeted and opened fire on the shift car of the police passport and visa department in the area called "Khaipalu." As a result of the incident, three police officers were killed.

In a conversation with Radar Armenia, political scientist and head of the "Democratic Alternative" party, Suren Surenyants, referring to subversive infiltration, said that the Armenian side chose the wrong negotiation tactics, "From the stage when Armenia agreed to discuss Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and the Nagorno-Karabakh issue in two separate "tracks," it was expected that something like this would happen because this approach leads to the fact that Karabakh becomes an internal issue of Azerbaijan because we We do not see these international mechanisms."

Surenyants asked: where are the international mechanisms of the Stepanakert-Baku dialogue, and where is the international opposition? "Aliyev tried to determine the effectiveness of the Russian peacekeeping mission, on the other hand, the extent of possible opposition from Western structures. Azerbaijan shot in both directions, both at the Russians and at the West. Why the Russians, because they are expected to change the regime of the Lachin Corridor?"

Surenyants noted that Aliyev calculated that he would not face serious opposition. "Naturally, there will be condemning statements, but Aliyev has calculated that there will be no serious opposition from any center in global turbulence."

According to him, Aliyev is trying to solve two efficient problems. First, to solve the demilitarization of Artsakh or disbanding of the Armed Forces, and second, to present whether weapons were transferred to Artsakh. "To solve this problem, on the one hand, he should open a trade field with the Russians, and on the other hand, show that the opposition of the West is not enough to influence him. And here, there is another important circumstance. These shootings take place after the judgment of the court in The Hague. With this, he is also trying to show that this verdict has no value because Aliyev believes that Russia, immersed in the war in Ukraine, cannot strongly resist him. Besides, it is not in Russia's interest to lose allies like Azerbaijan and Turkey in the background of the war in Ukraine. He also calculated that sanctions wouldn't be applied even in case of the Hague court's judgment, so he is going on the path of terrorist provocation.
