"Most of all, we want the road to be opened;" Nikol Pashinyan

RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan referred to the prospect of opening regional communications in the NA-government question-and-answer session, adding that Armenia has one land link with EAEU member states, the Upper Lars road, "with all its known problems." Pashinyan noted that Georgia had initiated the construction of a tunnel that would solve the problem, "But, on the other hand, we understand that the opening of communications in the region, particularly the opening of the Armenia-Azerbaijan railway and highway, will significantly increase our trade turnover with the Eurasian Economic Union and not only the Eurasian Economic Union."

The Prime Minister emphasized that RA is interested in implementing point 9 of the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020, "Everyone wants to open the roads; we are resisting. On the contrary, we want the road to be opened the most while others resist."

According to the Prime Minister, Armenia needs these roads the most because Armenia has been under siege for 30 years, and Turkey and Azerbaijan have alternative routes, "Everyone understands that we need those roads the most, so they are trying to increase the price of opening those roads for us."
