Today is the 31st anniversary of the formation of the Armenian Army.
On this day, January 28, 1992, the government adopted a decision "On the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia," thereby legally announcing the creation of the Armenian National Army.
The militia patrol regiment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the special operations regiment, the civil defense regiment, and the republican military commissariat were placed under the authority of the newly created ministry. A little later, the central apparatus of the Ministry of Defense has established: the General Staff, departments, and separate departments. In May 1992, the Ministry of Defense started the first conscription in the republic's territory, laying the foundation for the stable tradition of filling the army with conscripts.
