Regarding the situation in Artsakh, Radar Armenia talked with Edmon Marukyan, RA's special assignment ambassador.
- What diplomatic efforts is Armenia making in opening the Lachin Corridor?
- Starting from December 12, when a group of fake environmentalists closed the Lachin Corridor under the pretext of environmental monitoring, the entire diplomatic system, as well as the bodies dealing with foreign relations of the National Assembly, have been doing serious work all over the world, as a result of which there are many targeted statements aimed solely at Azerbaijan, that Lachin corridor is a corridor. And the other, the corridor is closed by Azerbaijan, and no one has picked up on that fake topic of environmentalists. We are talking about the statements of various international community representatives and institutions due out of that work.
- Lachin Corridor has been closed for eight days. The international community and several countries made appropriate assessments, but the issue, in fact, still needs to be resolved. If the international community's judgment does not stop Azerbaijan, what can stop it?
- It is clear that it is not enough for the corridor to be opened, but let's consider that the gas cut has been restored. And it is necessary to follow the path of continuing diplomatic work so that the problem of the humanitarian crisis in the Lachin Corridor is solved. But, as I have mentioned many times until the Nagorno-Karabakh problem is not resolved, the Lachin Corridor and all other issues will continue to arise. So, they are a consequence of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem not being settled. We need to find solutions that will bring long-lasting peace, human lives will not be threatened in this way, and we will not face such problems. It is necessary to work in this direction, not only to eliminate the consequences. Apart from the diplomatic levers, it is obvious what can restrain Azerbaijan. We are talking about restoring the military-political balance, which was violated tens of years ago. We discussed back in 2016 enshrining these provisions in the "Exit" alliance program. But at this stage, our leverage is diplomatic channels.
- The Russian side announced that during the negotiation process, the command of the Russian peacekeepers is waiting for the responses of the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides to the proposals related to the settlement of the situation. Are there already proposals from the Armenian side, and what are they about?
- Regarding the statements of the Russian side concerning the negotiations, I should mention that we still need results. I can't say anything. We have to wait. These negotiations will yield results, and the Lachin corridor will be opened. I repeat, the opening of the Lachin Corridor is not the solution to the problems. Because only as a result of solving the issues will we not have such consequences.
