"They are not insulting me with that," Pashinyan on those who label him "Turk" (VIDEO)

RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed hate speech during the "Against the Crime of Genocide" forum. According to him, in Armenia, it is necessary to stop using names of any nationality to insult people, including political rivals or opponents. "There is such a thing in Armenia, for example, if they want to hurt someone most sharply, there is a simple way to do it: to say, 'You are a Turk.' As a person who, due to well-known circumstances, has received that label a lot, I want to tell people who tend to insult me that they are not insulting me because I do not accept and perceive it as an insult."

Pashinyan noted that the same is true in Azerbaijan when the word "Armenian" is used as the most offensive expression,  "This reality also exists in Azerbaijan. To insult someone, even the latest insults, which have a "deadly" effect in our region, do not "work" as effectively as when you call someone "Armenian."

According to Pashinyan, governments should accept the reality, say that they are not at peace with it, and not want the names of nationalities to be used as an insult.

He said there is an idea to start discussions in the South Caucasus in an Armenia-Georgia-Azerbaijan format.

"The idea is not new; it is quite old, I have always defended it, but I suggested that this platform, first of all, be used only and only in the direction of eradicating hate speech from our region. The countries' leaders should record and say that they agree to cooperate to exclude hate speech," said Pashinyan.
