The NK issue has become an "elephant in the room" for Azerbaijan. Secretary of the Security Council

Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan referred to Azerbaijan's denials that the issue of ensuring the security of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians with international mechanisms was not discussed at the meeting between the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia and the assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Hikmet Hajiyev.

According to Grigoryan, some things cannot be denied; "We were not the only ones in the negotiations in the room, the American side was also there, and there is a protocol about it; Azerbaijan is aware of it. I am surprised that the facts are being denied. Naturally, we continue to work to understand the mechanism within which we will create conditions for a discussion between NK and Azerbaijan regarding the security and rights of Armenians living in NK. Recently, in our meetings with our international partners, we have seen their interest in continuing the work in this direction."

Grigoryan also commented on why the peace agreement should be separated from the NK issue; "When we had discussions in Washington, and there was clarity about creating an international mechanism, we approved that the issues be separated. But, when there is no clarity about the international mechanism, it is difficult for the Armenian side to move forward with the peace treaty. In general, Azerbaijan's approach that the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is resolved does not help in any way to move forward with this issue. The NK issue has become an "elephant in the room" for Azerbaijan. The problem exists, but they try to pretend it does not exist."
