The Council of Europe is ready to continue supporting the implementation of reforms in the field of criminal justice

Deputy Minister of Justice Arpine Sargsyan participated in the project's steering committee meeting, "Support to Criminal Justice Reforms and Harmonization of the Application of European Standards in Armenia."

Sargsyan highly appreciated the support of the Council of Europe in criminal justice. Thanks to this support, the new Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes came into effect on July 1, 2022, which gave a qualitative fresh breath to this field.

The Deputy Minister noted that within the framework of the program, among other things, about 550 law enforcement officers were trained on the introduction of new codes, methodological guidelines for the new regulations were developed, and expert support was provided in the drafting of the law "On Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters."

Sargsyan stated that monitoring the application of the new codes is extremely important in strengthening and improving the sectoral policy, noting that the stability and continuity of cooperation with the Council of Europe in this matter will bring its own benefit.

Martina Schmidt, head of the Yerevan office of the CE, also emphasized cooperation in criminal justice and expressed willingness to continue the effective partnership.

Within the framework of the session, reference was also made to the results of the support provided to the Court of Cassation and the Office of the Representative on International Legal Affairs.
The project is financed by the EU/CE and implemented by the Council of Europe within the framework of the 2019-2022 Partnership for Good Governance (GGP) program.
