On November 18, Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan was handed a copy of his credentials by the newly appointed ambassador of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, Eduardo Rosenbrock Bidart.
The Deputy Foreign Minister congratulated the first resident ambassador of Urugway to Armenia on his appointment and wished him fruitful work and success in his responsible mission.
In his turn, the newly appointed ambassador of Uruguay thanked for the good wishes and stated that he would make maximum efforts further to strengthen the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and enrich the Armenian-Uruguayan agenda.
The interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues related to Armenian-Uruguayan relations, including political dialogue, the development of bilateral political and economic ties, and the prospects for developing mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.
The Armenian side reaffirmed its commitment to the opening of the Armenian resident embassy in Montevideo within the next year.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs presented to the Uruguayan diplomat the situation created as a result of the Azerbaijani aggression unleashed on the sovereign territory of Armenia on September 13-14; he referred to several critical humanitarian problems caused by the 44-day war and Azerbaijani aggressions. The current developments and the positions of the Armenian side regarding the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and the settlement of Armenian-Turkish relations were presented.
A number of urgent regional and international issues were addressed.
