On October 27, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, met the Speaker of the Senate of the Oli Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva, within the framework of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
The parties stated that Armenia and Uzbekistan are consistently developing political dialogue while stressing that the potential of cooperation is not being fully used, so there is a need to make additional efforts. According to the interlocutors, the critical role of bilateral relations is parliamentary interaction.
"The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia emphasizes the development of cooperation with the partners of the Uzbek Parliament, both in a bilateral format and in international parliamentary structures, which can be effective from the point of view of the systematic approach to voting resolutions and the mutual support of the parliamentarians of both sides in the international arena," said Alen Simonyan.
Partners highly appreciated the role of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly as an essential platform for dialogue and interaction between parliaments.
RA NA Speaker referred to the manifestation of Azerbaijani aggression in Armenia on September 13 and the events that followed it. He noted that Azerbaijan refuses to withdraw its armed forces from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and return prisoners of war, hostages, and other detained persons. "We are determined to build peace in our region. We are actively working with our international partners, and we hope that the Republic of Uzbekistan will not be left out either," concluded Alen Simonyan.
At the meeting, there was an extensive reference to the Armenian community of Uzbekistan. According to the latest data, about 80,000 Armenians live there. Armenians are mainly concentrated in the cities of Tashkent (50,000) and Samarkand (25,000).
The city of Samarkand, as a crossroads of cultures, inspired our compatriot, Armenian Impressionist and People's Artist of the Uzbek SSR Hovhannes Ter-Tadevosyan. He created more than 400 pieces of art in Samarkand. "I would like to proudly mention the role of Hovhannes Ter-Tadevosyan in the formation of the fine arts of Uzbekistan at the beginning of the 20th century. He participated in creating the Union of Artists and established an association of fine arts workers," Alen Simonyan emphasized.
The Head of the Parliament of Uzbekistan, Alen Simonyan, asked to exchange the leading experience of our country in the World Trade Organization and the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
At the end of the meeting, the parties sent each other invitations for official mutual visits.
