Zdravko Dimitrov mentioned the ethnic Armenian mayors of Plovdiv during the meeting with the RA President

As part of his state visit to the Republic of Bulgaria, the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, left Sofia on October 19 for the Armenian city of Plovdiv, where he met with the mayor of Plovdiv Zdravko Dimitrov.

Zdravko Dimitrov noted at the meeting held in Plovdiv City Hall that they were waiting for the visit of the President of Armenia with great joy and enthusiasm. "There is quite a large Armenian community in Plovdiv, for which we are very proud. The only Armenian school in Bulgaria is also located here, which has been operating since 1834; there is also an Armenian church in our city," said Zdravko Dimitrov and briefly presented the city's development plans and opportunities for cooperation.

President Khachaturyan thanked him for the warm welcome and appreciated Bulgaria's friendly attitude towards our compatriots. According to the president, good conditions were created for the representatives of the Armenian community, as a result of which they tried to significantly contribute to the development and progress of Bulgaria and especially Plovdiv.

During the meeting, Zdravko Dimitrov mentioned the Armenian mayors of Plovdiv, one of whom was Tiran Parikyan (1971-1979), who made an outstanding contribution to shaping the city's modern appearance. Karapet Tovmasyan, an Armenian, was the mayor of Plovdiv from 1991-1995, he was a respected doctor and public figure, and during his tenure, he introduced several modern management models.

At the meeting, the interlocutors discussed issues related to deepening cooperation in several other directions.

As part of his visit to Plovdiv, President Khachaturyan also visited the ancient theater of Philippopolis, a secondary school named after Victoria and Grigor Tutunjian, "St. Gevorg" Armenian Apostolic Church of Plovdiv and the house museum named after Bulgarian-Armenian Stepan Hindliyan.
