RA Deputy Ministers of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Artur Martirosyan, Zhanna Andreasyan, and Karen Trchunyan received World Bank senior economist Renata Freitas Lemos and consultant Javier Botero.
Artur Martirosyan welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of cooperation with the World Bank. "We highly value the partnership relations with the World Bank, first of all within the framework of the reform of the public education system."
Emphasizing the continuity of the started reforms, he noted that the World Bank is an essential international partner in education reforms in terms of the implementation of long-term programs of expertise and support.
During the meeting, the Deputy Ministers of CSMS presented the ongoing reforms in the field of education and referred to the programs implemented with the support of the World Bank, including the implementation of the "EU for Innovation (EU4Innivation)" and "Improving Education" programs.
The deputy ministers informed that the National Assembly recently adopted the "State Program for the Development of RA Education until 2030" in the first reading. Subsequently, the plan of measures to ensure the implementation of the project will be developed. In this context, it was noted that the action plan would also be submitted for public discussion, expecting the expert support of development partners, including the World Bank.
World Bank Senior Economist Renata Freitas Lemos expressed willingness to continue supporting education development programs, noting that human capital development is one of the WB's priorities.
According to Renata Freitas Lemos, the World Bank is also ready to send a group of international experts to Armenia, who will hold seminars, analyze the "State Program for the Development of Education of the Republic of Armenia until 2030", and present their assessment and vision of the action plan.
The parties also discussed several issues related to the introduction of the new standard of public education, the overhaul of schools, the creation of science and engineering laboratories, and the improvement of legislation in the field of education.
