Armenia's concern continues to be that Azerbaijan may use the pretext of a not demarcated border after the peace treaty to attack Armenia. Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the RA Security Council, announced this on Public TV.
"We discussed the schedule of the peace agreement at the meeting with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Azerbaijani President's Assistant Hikmet Hajiyev in Washington. It was agreed that delimitation would occur by the year's end. The peace agreement and the delimitation are interrelated," said the RA SC secretary.
Armen Grigoryan also mentioned that the main agenda regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh issue was how international mechanisms would be created so that Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan discuss the security and rights of Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Grigoryan also mentioned that the complete withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia was discussed with Hajiyev.
"The border of Armenia and Azerbaijan was delimited in 1929. It remains to come to a mutual agreement that we accept this as a border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, accept that border, and insure 29,800 square meters of Armenia. Km area and move forward," said Grigoryan.
He mentioned that there is still no clarity regarding the mechanisms, but there is a perception that RA should move in this direction.
The Secretary of the Security Council also said that the issue of lifting the blockade was discussed. It is essential that the lifting of the blockade will take place based on the principle of reciprocity.
"Armenia's position remains the same: we will not discuss any issue with a corridor logic. Unblocking should take place based on sovereignty," he said.
