On October 10, the delegation headed by RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan, who is on a three-day official visit to Moscow, hosted the Chairman of the State Duma of the RF Federal Assembly, Vyacheslav Volodin. Simonyan-Volodi had a one-hour private conversation followed by an extended meeting.
Alen Simonyan, welcoming the Russian partners, thanked Vyacheslav Volodin for the invitation, noting that the Armenian-Russian allied cooperation is based on the historically formed friendship between the peoples of our countries.
At the meeting, it was noted on both sides that the guarantee of continuous development of bilateral ties is the active political dialogue at all levels, particularly between the leaders of our countries, which outline the dynamics of cooperation in all fields. The critical role of parliamentary interaction in the entire spectrum of bilateral relations was emphasized, emphasizing the activity of the inter-parliamentary commission on cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. In this context, the parties touched on topics related to upcoming projects, stating that the work should be continued on a systemic basis, having a transparent vector of development outlined by the principles of collegiality and maintaining the strategic partnership.
Azerbaijan's armed aggression against the Republic of Armenia was one of the critical issues of the meeting with the Russian partners.
"Our visit to Moscow takes place in a difficult period for Armenia. As it is already known, on September 13, Azerbaijan started a new round of aggression against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia. The armed forces of Azerbaijan intensively shelled the positions of the RA Armed Forces and the objects of civil infrastructures deep in the territory of Armenia in several directions. It is a sad fact. We have 207 dead and injured," said Alen Simonyan, calling Azerbaijan's large-scale attack against the internationally recognized sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia a dangerous trend with aggressive goals by Azerbaijan in the CIS. In this context, referring to the activities of the CSTO, Alen Simonyan noted that it could not respond promptly and effectively to the aggression against one of its members. "Armenia does not have time for long-term security solutions," the Speaker of the RA National Assembly emphasized.
At the same time, Alen Simonyan expressed hope that the proposals developed during the CSTO work will contribute to de-escalating the situation and establishing stability in our region. The issues related to the Armenian diaspora in the Russian Federation and the many thousands of citizens of the Russian Federation settled in Armenia were discussed.
