- Azerbaijan returned 17 prisoners of war to Armenia after the meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan with the mediation of the American side. And in general, the American side has recently been quite active in regulating Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. Does this mean that the role of the moderator of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations passes from Russia to the USA?
-Gratefully accepting the American efforts, which significantly intensified in the post-Trump period. However, it is not worth hoping that the role of the regulator of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations will finally pass to the USA right now, no matter how desirable it is for us. Immediately after the First World War, the USA made unimaginable political and humanitarian efforts to prevent the Russian-Turkish alliance from destroying the Armenian people and statehood. Still, it could not succeed until the end. In 1918-23, contrary to the civilized West, the Turks continued their genocidal actions and divided and destroyed RA with the Russians. Extreme seriousness and vigilance are required.
- Will the USA manage to expand its presence in the region, or will Russia not allow it anyway?
- Of course, the USA will expand and make its presence more significant, and the warring and weakening Russia will try to prevent it at all costs. A wounded and hungry beast is more dangerous than a healthy and full one. And now Russia is both injured and hungry. The problem is that we don't know what other craziness Russia is capable of on the world stage. tomorrow, a very different arrangement may be created. In the confusion of the great collision, we are faced with the imperative not to tread.
- In your opinion, does the United States have the resources and, most importantly, the desire to exert pressure and restrain Azerbaijan?
- There is no need to doubt American resources and desire. The main thing is to take into account the factor of time. Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Russia will never hesitate to take advantage of the world chaos that will be created, even if it is short-lived. Suppose until now; the Russian-Turkish alliance has not succeeded in duplicating the illegal Kars treaty and the November 9 capitulation tripartite signed by Putin in the form of Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Azerbaijani peace treaties. In that case, we owe it to American resources and desire. However, there is another side to it. We must finally admit that the fight is not for Armenia but for Azerbaijan in the region, as it was 100 years ago. And the question is whether they will show Azerbaijan a club or try to bribe it. The main thing we can do against that mess is organized ourselves with a sense of spiritual security, common sense, and a determination to defend ourselves. In doing so, we will increase both American resources and desire.
