At this moment, it is out of date to talk about the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet in Prague on October 6, within the framework of the summit of the European political community. Radar Armenia talked with political scientist Tigran Grigoryan about the topic.

- What expectations can be had from this meeting?

- I think that during that meeting, Erdogan will try to put pressure on Nikol Pashinyan so that the latter accepts Ilham Aliyev's demands in two agendas of fundamental importance for Azerbaijan. We are talking about the peace treaty agenda and the so-called bell corridor.

- What can this meeting give in terms of the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations?

- The President of Turkey and other officials have publicly stated many times that progress in Armenian-Turkish relations is due to the regulation of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, and I think this message will also be sent to the Prime Minister of Armenia.

- Do you see a prospect of normalization of relations in the near future?

- I think that during that meeting, indirect threats may be made against Armenia, that if Armenia does not take quick steps for progress in these agendas, Turkey may support Azerbaijan in case of military escalation. Therefore, it is perhaps premature to talk about the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations at this moment.

- Turkey conditioned its relations with RA on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. Now, what do you say in that regard, taking into account the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, the border tension?

- As of now, all attention is focused on various processes in Armenian-Azerbaijani contexts, and any progress in the process of regulating Armenian-Turkish relations will depend on these processes in the future.
