RA Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan received today the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia Sergey Kopirkin.
The ambassador congratulated Anna Vardapetyan on assuming the responsible position and expressed confidence that the cooperation between the Prosecutor General's Offices of Armenia and Russia will be strengthened and will be continuous.
Anna Vardapetyan welcomed the ambassador and asked to convey her best wishes to her Russian counterpart, Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, stressing that she is ready to put in maximum effort to move the partnership and trusting relations established between the two structures to a qualitatively new dimension.
Before addressing the issues related to cooperation, Prosecutor General Vardapetyan presented the consequences of the large-scale aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia on September 13, emphasizing the need for the immediate withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, the return of Armenian prisoners of war, and the unconditional observance of the ceasefire.
The Prosecutor General also spoke about the war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, the murders of Armenian prisoners of war, the cases of torture of Armenian service members, including women, and emphasized the need to bring to justice the persons and organizers of the flagrant war crimes committed in this and previous periods.
Ambassador Kopirkin noted that Russia is making every effort to resolve the issues raised, adding that ensuring the security of Armenia is one of the priorities of the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed other issues of mutual interest, mainly related to mutual legal assistance.
