RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan's press statement following the meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.
"Mr. Minister, dear Nikos,
Dear friend,
Ladies and gentlemen,
A few days ago, we had an important meeting in New York in the trilateral format of Armenia-Greece-Cyprus. Today I am happy to host my good friend and colleague Nikos Dendias and his delegation in Yerevan.
Allow me, on your behalf, Mr. Dendias, to thank Greece and the Greek government for their continued support of Armenia and the Armenian people, especially when we are facing Azerbaijan's aggression against Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Your visit to Armenia during the difficult days of the 44-day war in the fall of 2020 and your presence in Yerevan now are proof of solidarity and support that we greatly appreciate.
Dear Colleagues,
Today, my colleague and I had the opportunity to discuss the development of Armenian-Greek relations. Over the past 30 years, we have established solid interstate ties and formed a comprehensive bilateral agenda, including active political dialogue, economic cooperation, defense, transport, culture, and other vital areas.
We noted that practical cooperation is also taking place in the trilateral format of Armenia-Greece-Cyprus. I am sure that with joint efforts, we will be able to develop this critical format further and serve to promote the vital interests of our three countries.
Today we also discussed regional and international developments in detail. I presented to my colleague the situation in the South Caucasus, including the consequences of the recent aggression of Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.
We value the appropriate and adequate response of the international community to the romantic and criminal aspirations of Azerbaijan against stability and peace. Inadequate, equating responses between the aggressor and the target of aggression lead to new crimes. In this context, we value friendly Greece's position regarding the situation.
The consequences of the aggression must be eliminated; that is, first of all, the Azerbaijani armed forces must leave the sovereign territory of Armenia, the Armenian prisoners of war must be returned, and the ceasefire regime must be fully observed. At the same time, the international community should prevent Azerbaijan's adventurous steps and possible new aggressions through clear actions and mechanisms.
Today we also touched on the process of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh problem. I want to remind you that two years ago, Azerbaijan unleashed large-scale aggression against Nagorno Karabakh and its people today. Today, two years later, the problem remains unresolved because the underlying issues of the conflict have not been resolved.
I want to emphasize once again that, as responsible members of the international community, we reject the approach of solving problems through force and the threat of power and reaffirm our commitment to establishing peace and stability in the region through peaceful negotiations.
That's all I can summarize my speech and I would like to pass the word on to you, dear colleague."
