Radar Armenia talked to political scientist Tigran Grigoryan about the situation in the region.
- Aliyev's rhetoric does not seem to change. How to understand what to expect after Aliyev's latest statements?
- Aliyev's statements correspond to reality. At this moment, it is difficult to restrain Azerbaijan only with words.
-Is Aliyev not worried about the criticisms of the international community?
- In that regard, it is essential that severe foreign players, and first of all the United States, do not limit themselves to statements but also send a clear message to Baku that in case of new aggression against Armenia, there may be clear consequences for Azerbaijan. In other words, at least the threat of sanctions should be there so that they approach the aggressive policy in Baku more carefully.
- What should Armenia do at this stage to maintain relative peace on the borders of Armenia?
- As for what Armenia should do, it is evident that as long as this kind of military imbalance between Armenia and Azerbaijan is maintained, Azerbaijan will continue this policy of forcing pressure on Armenia. And here, the only solution is the acquisition of the necessary weapons, which was not implemented in the last two years, and of course, the process of fundamental reforms of the Armed Forces. Without these two components, talking about the other steps is pointless. Diplomacy can essentially serve what is on the ground. In other words, if you do not have the capabilities and are not capable of protecting your security, it is pointless to rely on diplomacy. However, diplomatic work must also be done.
