Radar Armenia spoke with Iranologist Emma Begijanyan about the statements made by Iran in the context of Azerbaijan's latest attack on the sovereign territory of Armenia.
- How would you interpret Iran's response to the military invasion of Azerbaijan? Was it sufficient or not?
- In my opinion, Iran's response is sufficient, taking into account the very harsh statements at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the accumulation of troops on the Iran-Azerbaijan border. What do we expect from Iran if we do not take steps for close cooperation? I don't see such actions; maybe they are being done.
- Iran talks about the inviolability of borders; what does this mean?
- The statements of the Iranian side regarding the inviolability of the borders indicate that Azerbaijan cannot create any "Zangezur Corridor" through the territory of Armenia that Armenia will not control, which will also close the direct connection between Armenia and Iran. Until now, Iran considers the road through Armenia to Russia and Europe reliable and safe.
- How would you interpret the gathering of Iranian troops at the border?
- The accumulation of Iranian troops on the border is a clear message to Azerbaijan. If it tries to open a corridor through military force, Iran will take appropriate action, even military intervention.
- The head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Parliament of Iran said. "Iran will turn the dream of changing the region's borders into a nightmare." How to understand and what to expect?
- In my opinion, everything is straightforward. If the Azerbaijani side tries to invade Armenia by military force and open a corridor, Iran's military intervention will not be late. But are we taking a step against this background? Of course, Iran makes such statements based on its interests. And we should use this combination of goods and closely cooperate with Iran on security issues.
