Alen Simonyan and Nancy Pelosi make a statement to the press after the meeting.
"We discussed regional issues.
Mrs. Pelosi's visit to Armenia is essential for us in this challenging period. We are grateful for the work done by the United States, through whose mediation a fragile truce was achieved," NA Speaker Alen Simonyan said in his speech, adding: "Any US assistance is vital for us; clear sanctions can become another lever against Azerbaijan's expansionist ambitions."
The President of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, mentioned in her speech that Armenia is of great importance to the US, adding: "It is a great honor for me to be the first US speaker to visit Armenia."
Referring to security issues, Pelosi said. "The USA, as the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, continues to insist that the conflict has no military solution; we continue to insist that the NK conflict has a peaceful, negotiated, and lasting solution.
On behalf of the US Congress, we strongly condemn the deadly attacks of Azerbaijan on the territory of Armenia."
According to Pelosi, they understand that Armenia is part of a security organization with Russia, and that is why the USA is deeply concerned about Armenia's security. They are trying to understand what the USA can do without referring to that security structure.
